Are you considering purchasing a Google Pixel 4a in 2021? Here’s everything you need to know about the process.

Google Pixel 4a

The Pixel 4a is the cheapest phone that Google currently offers, but it is also one of the best budget Android devices available on the market. It is the third-lowest rung on Google’s ladder, behind the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, but it offers many of the same great features as the other two devices in the lineup.

Throughout this Google Pixel 4a buyer’s guide, we’ll provide you with all of the information you’ll need to make an informed purchase and get the most out of your new phone, and also know about pixel 4a specs.

The pixel 4a release date on August 3, 2020, and will be pixel 4a release date in August 2020. As Google’s most affordable phone last year, it’s still a great choice for those looking for: A cheap-ish phone from a trusted brand, A great camera, Smaller size High-quality software, and updates that are guaranteed

According to the Pixel 4a’s pricing, it costs $349 in the United States, where it is only available in a single size, one color, and one storage configuration. It competes with the iPhone SE, the OnePlus Nord (in markets other than the United States), the Samsung Galaxy A52, and a slew of other low-cost smartphones from brands such as Xiaomi and Realme, among others.

You should avoid the Pixel 4a if you want:

  • Excellent overall performance, particularly in games
  • There are numerous bells and whistles.
  • A battery that holds several days
  • 5G (get the Pixel 4a 5G version instead

Is the Pixel 4a worth buying?

We believe that the Google Pixel 4a is an excellent value for money, particularly in the United States, where value-focused brands like Realme and Poco are less prevalent.

At $349, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for a phone that is both durable and functional for day-to-day use but also includes niceties such as a high-quality camera and a beautiful screen.

As a phone manufacturer, Google does not have an imposing track record. Some previous Pixel phones have had hardware issues, and this is not the first time. In addition, Google phones are rarely at the forefront of performance and battery life innovation. The Pixel 4a is no exception to this rule. Keep this in mind if you want the highest level of dependability or the most potent specifications for your money.

The Pixel 4a is the successor to the Pixel 3a, a highly successful smartphone a few years ago. Earlier this year, we named the 3a as our most highly recommended device, and the 4a was close behind. The Pixel 4a came in third place in our Editor’s Choice Awards for 2020, while the Pixel 4a 5G came in second place. This means that they are among the very best smartphones available for the vast majority of consumers.

What reviewers are saying about the Pixel 4a

David Imel, one of our staff members, recently reviewed the Pixel 4a and was impressed. David described the Pixel 4a as a “no-brainer,” noting that it provides users with “one of the best Android experiences in a well-designed chassis, for one-third the price of modern flagships.”

In addition to the low price, David cited the Pixel 4a’s “fantastic display,” “excellent cameras,” and “excellent performance” as some of the device’s selling points. On the negative side, David pointed out that there is no IP rating and no wireless charging. Additionally, while the single camera on the back is adequate, it falls short of the versatility offered by multi-camera designs.

A few weeks later, Jimmy Westenberg of Android Authority published his own second opinion, which he found less favorable than David’s. However, despite his continued enjoyment of the Pixel 4a, he ultimately decided to return it in favor of the Pixel 5. His buyer’s remorse is exacerbated by the 90Hz screen, slightly snappier performance, and promises of a more “flagship” experience in the future.

Jimmy’s takeaway had less to do with hardware and more to do with timing. Google (along with the global pandemic) has pushed back what would have been a game-changing phone from May to the point where it is now directly competing with newer, better Pixel devices. It is less expensive, and if you don’t mind doing without the 90Hz screen, it is still a great purchase.

Is the Pixel 4a camera good?

The Pixel 4a features the same 12MP camera sensor as its predecessor. There’s also only one lens on the back – no wide-angle, zoom, or depth sensors.

On paper, that doesn’t sound encouraging, but specs alone don’t paint the complete picture. Like other Pixel phones, the Pixel 4a punches above its weight, thanks to excellent software optimization. As David put it in our review, “images from the Pixel 4a are classic Google. That is, they’ll look fantastic straight out of the camera in nearly any situation.”

The Pixel 4a’s single camera is refreshingly straightforward, but that is also one of its weaknesses. Other phone manufacturers are pushing hardware boundaries by including more lenses, larger sensors, and more complex zoom systems. This provides users with greater flexibility in capturing each scene most effectively. Meanwhile, with the Pixel 4a, you get exactly what you see on the screen.

How is the Pixel 4a battery life?

According to our testing results, the 3,140mAh battery on the Pixel 4a provides approximately 6.5-7 hours of screen-on time when used at a moderate rate. That’s a respectable number for a battery of this size, though it’s unlikely to be sufficient to last you more than two days of continuous use.

Our battery test pitted the Pixel 4a against two competitors – the OnePlus Nord and LG Velvet – and two other Google devices, including the Pixel 3 and Pixel 2. As you can see in the chart below, the Pixel 4a holds its own against the Nord’s larger battery, while the LG Velvet, with its 4,300mAh battery, takes the lead. Both the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 4 are outperformed by the 4a.

Is the Pixel 4a fast enough?

It is comparable to everything else about the Pixel 4a, including its performance, which is adequate for the price point. In Fortnite, you won’t get smoothness or frame rates on par with those found in flagship games. In everyday use, you will enjoy a nearly seamless, lag-free experience, which is precisely what most people who purchase this type of phone desire and expect.

With the Pixel 4a, our resident chiphead Rob Triggs discovered that it is “fast enough for a modern mid-range handset when it comes to performance in the real world.” The “real world” part is critical; Rob discovered during his testing that the Snapdragon 730G processor could not handle intensive use, such as prolonged gaming sessions. After approximately 25 minutes of intensive use, the processor begins to slow down.

Google Pixel 4a – Benchmarks

Google Pixel 4a - Benchmarks
On average, non-gaming usage, the Pixel 4a is competitive with phones equipped with the Snapdragon 765G, the next fastest tier of processors.
To summarise, the Pixel 4a is adequate for most tasks, but it is not recommended for those who wish to play high-end games or run other processor-intensive applications. If you intend to keep your next phone for more than two years, you may want to consider a phone with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor, which is more future-proof.

What about the Pixel 4a (5G)?

With a 5G version of the Pixel 4a, Google has muddied the waters even further, as is customary for the company. Earlier this year, the Pixel 4a (5G) was released for $499, just a few months after the non-5G device. It was released at the same time as the Pixel 5, which also has 5G connectivity.
The Pixel 4a 5G is more similar to the Pixel 5 in many ways than it is to the Pixel 4a in other ways. It stands out from the crowd with an additional wide-angle camera, a more powerful Snapdragon 765G processor, and a slightly larger 6.2-inch display. The battery capacity has also been increased, which should help mitigate some of the increased power consumption associated with a 5G connection.
